Anchored instruction is a method of teaching skills in a context. If you would like a short introductory lesson on what anchored instruction is, view a Power Point presentation on this topic. Be sure to read the notes beneath the slides.

The Jasper Woodbury Series is an excellent of CD-ROM technology for anchored instruction.

One of the 12 CDs in the Jasper series, Rescue at Boone's Meadow, is a complex trip planning problem, which involves skills in number operations (adding and subtracting) and could be used to teach algebraic concepts. For example, students can use different algebraic functions to find the fuel needed to complete the trip.

The other adventure, The Right Angle, is a problem that requires geometry knowledge to solve it. The anchored video can be used to teach the concepts, or to tie previously learned geometry knowledge together in a context.

Each CD-ROM in the Jasper Series includes the main problem (video), resources, tools to bookmark important scenes, teacher's manual (in the teacher's CD), and solutions.
