Although there are many aspects to my
beliefs about education, I do believe a few basic characteristics are
crucial to my classroom. I believe every student is entitled to the
chance to succeed. Student success is important both to the student’s
self-esteem and the teacher’s feeling of accountability. Students should
be given goals that are attainable. If a goal is not reachable, then
change it, alter it, or make a new goal!
Two beliefs that coincide are responsibility and choice. Students need
responsibility to help them grow as individuals and have ownership and
pride of their work. Student choice also leads to a feeling of ownership
and control. If a student has a choice in her or her own learning, he or
she will be more receptive and be able to explore his or her own
individual learning process.
The utmost important aspect of my educational philosophy is a safe
environment in which students feel secure enough to take risks. Respect
is expected from both the teacher and the students. It is a priority
that my classroom strive for a positive atmosphere in which everyone is
accepted and feels safe.
