| Welcome
to my CTER website. In my site you will see projects I have completed
and the use of technology by the students in the K- 3 building I work at
in Pekin, IL. Our district has over 300 teachers on staff and we have 4,000
students enrolled. We are organized into 11 schools: 1 preschool
family education center; 6 primary (K-3); 2 intermediate (4-6); 2
junior high (7-8).
Our
district is a very enriched in the usage of technology that has been gained
through grants. By the end of third grade students have learned how
to do Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and are familiar with the usage of the
Internet.
Students
have learned that the Internet can be used for research and can be an enjoyable
learning experience. They have also been taught that it can be enjoyable
to be on, but it is the worldwide web and is a public place that many people
use from all over the world..
Those
in my District feel that using a computer is a life long learning skill
that is educational in the school setting. They have also learned that
there are many sites that do not have any educational value in the school
setting.
The
use of the District's Internet is a privilege, not a right. Students
are trained on what is acceptable to use and what is not. Parents must
sign a permission slip for its usage. Those that violate the terms
of the agreement will have this privilege revoked.
Because
cyberspace has so much to offer students not only educationally, they are
also becoming knowledgeable in the use of technology, which is the
wave of the future.
