Batavia is a city of 23,000 people.  Town is divided by the Fox River into the east and west sides.  In earlier days the town was best known for making Challenge Windmills and several still stand in the downtown today.  A nice Riverwalk in the downtown area (on the river) was made totally by townspeople--volunteers.  One high school, one middle school, and five elementary schools in Batavia.  We are 40 miles west of Chicago, and at present the furthest western suburb from Chicago.  This may change soon, if the commuters go to Elburn, which is farther west.  Our Batavia United Methodist Church is one of the historical landmarks of the town and on the national register of landmarks
