Purpose:
To get students to actively examine the geographic variations of gas prices
and consider the factors contributing to those variations.
Project Description:
This project is designed to help students compile data about gas prices
around the U.S. Data will be collected reflecting price per gallon
of regular gasoline |
|
(87 octane). The data can then be used to
examine factors such as population variances, differing taxation, daily
trends, and other possible influences. The goal of this project is to
get students to critically examine an economic impact on their daily
life (gas prices) that has scientific, political, and economic
implications. Students will also need to process this examination
as evidence in justifying one basis for a rend in gas prices. |

Participant Expectations:
For information on how to help, please look at the
For Teachers page (for class and group
participation) or the For Individuals page.
On my end, students in my class will be compiling all input from
participants in two forms: raw data (long text file) and spreadsheet format.
Our class will then be compiling the information into graphs and other
reports.
Project Dates:
The project will run over a 5-day period, from
July 23 - July 27, 2003.
This short period will reduce the oil price variations that could be much
more difficult to sort out.
