HTML Editor ReviewRachel's Review of PageBreezePersonal Experience with HTML Editors I do not have much previous knowledge of HTML editors. In college I had to make an eportfolio using Dreamweaver. I never had formal training with Dreamweaver and didn't really understand what I was doing when I created my eportfolio. Recently I learned how to use Microsoft Publisher to create a website for school. I thought this software was pretty easy to use. The feature I liked most was all of the predesigned templates that were available in different colors, patterns, fonts etc. The most recent software I have used is NVU for the eportfolio for the CTER program. The tutorial in the orientation for using NVU was very helpful. I never would have thought that I would be able to create a table, link to a video or upload a picture to a website until I learned by using NVU. Research on HTML Editors I began my research by Googling HTML editor. I was overwhelmed by the number of websites that had free HTML editing software to download. I first downloaded NoteTab Light. The website claimed it was easy to use so I thought I would try it out. Because I do not have a lot of background in HTML code, I did not find this software easy to use. I didn't even know where to begin. After doing some research on Wikipedia, I learned what WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) meant, and decided this was the type of software I needed to use. I chose to work with PageBreeze. With PageBreeze, you can easily switch between visual and tag mode. It is easy to add links to your webpages and test them in the preview tab. When you create a new webpage you have many options for different templates. The templates come in a variety of colors and styles depending on the use of your webpage. There are also links within the software that take you to websites with free downloadable templates that are more involved than the ones that come with the software. PageBreeze PRO is $29.95. It comes with built in FTP/Publishing, multiple editor windows, link verification and free upgrades. This seems like a pretty good price for what you get with the software. While doing my research, besides for the free HTML editing software, most of the prices I saw ranged from $39.95-$399. Often times the features that were advertised on the more expensive HTML editing software such as Frontpage were the templates for websites. Frontpage cost $199. One if its best features was that it had built in buttons in the templates to get between pages easily. With PageBreeze to add a page, or a link to a page, you just drag the page from a menu and drop it onto the screen where you want the link to be. It is very easy to use. Frontpage has been discontinued. However, I think that you could create a professional looking website using PageBreeze and you don't need to pay for software as costly as the ones similar to Frontpage. Demonstration of the Software One thing I have not done before that I want to do for the coming school year is post homework assignments online. I created a homework calendar for my first chapter in Geometry to test out features of PageBreeze. I was able to make a table as well as link to an assignment that was created in Word. The link for this webpage is below.
