Activity 6: Advanced HTML editing software CoffeeCUP HTML Editor 2007
and
CoffeeCup Visual Site Designer 5.6

Overview: CoffeCup HTML Editor 2007 was a free trial of software from the web site CoffeeCup.  I downloaded the free thirty-day trial of their full version of the HTML editor. The cost of the full version of this software is $49 but you could also get different packages for $129 that include other software that may or may not be useful to you.  They also have a free package for educators that includes the full version of their Visual Site Designer 5.6, WEb Calander 5.6, RSS Newsflash 4.5, Flash Form Builder 6.0, and Photo Gallery 6.0. They also have a list of free software and I downloaded their free editor but found it to be nothing but a stripped down version of their HTML editor without the best features.  A person with expereince writing HTML code would find this editor sufficient to do basic editing, but it doesn't offer a mode where you can see both the code and the page you are building at the same time. I ended up experimenting with both the full version of the HTML editor as well as their Visual Site Designer 5.6.

I choose CoffeeCup becuase I was looking for software that I had no experience with, offered free tools for teachers, and could possibly offer a tool that teachers with no HTML experience could use.

CoffeeCup HTML Editor 2007

Review: CoffeeCup HTML Editor 2007 is a basic HTML editor that has the features that you would expect out of an HTML editor.  It is a What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) editor which seems standard these days.  Its real use seemed to be the ability for it to be expanded by the purchase of other software that will allow you to add flash, webcams, RSS feeds, photo galleries, live chats, blogs, rip and burn mp3's, host live chats through the site, and other features.  Many of these extra tools could be useful and they offer technical support to registered customers.  Many of their packages that come with the HTML editor also come with many of these add-on programs.  They are priced in a reasonably for what they claim the user will be able to do.  There is more information about CoffeeCup HTML Editor in my demonstration.

CoffeeCup Visual Site Designer 5.6

Review: I also choose to review the CoffeeCup Visual Site Designer because it was free to teachers.  I found the software to be fairly user friendly, but it was different than other HTML editors that I have used in the past.  This is also a What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG )  except that you  don't see the code for the site that you are writing so whatever you create is what you get. It does have the ability to add code into sections of the site you are building if you have that ability but it is not required at all.  There is a more detailed review of CoffeeCup Visual Site Designer 5.6 in my demonstration.
