A teacher who cares about his/her students is much more effective than a teacher who does not care about the students.  A caring teacher is able to empathize with and invest in the protection and development of the child.  Caring teachers are committed to their student’s growth in all aspects of their student’s development including their emotional development.  For most teachers a feeling of happiness and fulfillment is attained when they are able to understand and relate to their students individually.  Kids are able to pick up a teachers beliefs and attitudes.  They know if the teacher is interested in only teaching them the lessons or fostering their development on a whole.  A teacher who is not caring can not be as affective because they do not have the emotional attachment to the students enabling that student to develop a sense of trust.  Through that trust the student is more open to learn.  Caring is most important to students that are struggling in their classes or debating whether or not to stay in school or drop out.  A caring student is more in touch with the individual needs of their students and is therefore more able to provide that student with individual support.  That support may be a matter of success or failure in the life of that student.

Teachers can demonstrate this caring in many ways.  A caring teacher looks out for the safety of his/her students.  When the student feels safe they will be more relaxed and in a better mind to learn.  A caring teacher insures this safety in the classroom, playground and on class trips.  They also look to the safety of the student at home.  Many students unfortunately do not receive the proper care at home.  A caring teacher can not only help in an abusive situation but also provide that students a caring environment in the classroom adding to their self esteem.  A caring teacher also looks at the needs of the students outside the classroom.  Many students today face problems such as hunger, violence, divorce and homelessness to name a few.  These extra stresses to young student’s lives can make it many times impossible for them to be in a state of mind where they are able to learn.  By using resources provided by the school or by taking extra time to research support opportunities for families are caring teacher is able to help in some sort of relief for the student.  A caring teacher takes the times to know the individual students in the classroom and is able to then apply the student’s interests to the lesson planning process.  A caring teacher is able to help themselves as well as the students by making the students in a frame of mind where true learning can then occur.
