Computers and the Internet have become a tool that most people use everyday. Because of our societies relies on computers it is important that children have access to these items. Unfortunately the cost of such services are very expensive and most of the time the number of computers are limited in the classroom; however students need the information that the internet contains. There are several ways that this can be accomplished.
It would be important to have a set of resource books such as encyclopedias and dictionaries. Students can look up information the “old fashion way.” Although the internet is a faster and more efficient way of looking up information, encyclopedias can do the same.
Along with reference books, teachers should go to the library
and select several books on a similar subject. These books can be
shared in the classroom among the children and they can gain valuable information
from these books.
Another idea is to take a field trip to the local public library.
Here children can look through books as well use computers and other machines
that the local library has.
Teachers can also use the internet and print out pages that the children can use. It would be a good idea to bring the print outs to class and use them along with the reference and library books so that children can have a larger variety.
By giving group projects a number of students can use one computer together. This will save much time because not only can multiple students work at the same time but also can help each other for a quicker search.
Until schools have enough money to run quality programs in general teacher’s have to be creative and come up with different ways of teaching. It is also important to understand that many times businesses in the area are willing to donate items such as computers if they are asked. Teachers need to find these resources that will benefit their students.
