387 Major Project

Introduction

My 387 major project is a web site devoted to the math courses that I teach at Steeleville High.  This site is to provide information concerning curriculum, assignments, requirements, expectations, and other helpful resources for both parents and students.  As the development of this site continues my hope is to have a way for students to access grades confidentially and make their own contributions.  Here is the link to my 387 major project.

Resources

Making this type of site is something I have been thinking about for the past year.  Now that I have the time and the resources I am looking forward to seeing what I can successfully develop that would be of good use for my students.  I originally intended this site to function mainly as an informational site where students and parents would have access to what was happening in the classroom.  For example if a student is sick he can log on and get his assignments.  If a parent wants to know when a future exam is approaching that information will be easily available for them.

I would also like to expand the functionality of this site by offering places where students can get assistance in their studies.  This could be in the form of sites that already exist, or something on our site where students can ask questions or offer suggestions and get responses in a timely manner.

Early Developments

The web site is still very early in its developments.  Not knowing html code and depending on a web page program could slow down the progress of this site but so far everything is working out well.  Hopefully as this site advances so will my knowledge on coding.  Below I have put some links as examples of the different pages I have been working on.

Project Revisions (week 4 update)

One of the comments made was that the department page text was difficult to read.  I lightened the background to fix this.  Another suggestion was that I provide links within each page to make the navigation a little easier.  I tried to add the appropriate links that would accomplish this.  On the Consumer pages I put links to the Pre-Algebra home page and vise versa because there are a few students who take both classes at the same time.  I also did the same thing with the Geometry and Trigonometry pages.  As stated previously my future plans for this site are to add pages for students to confidentially check their grades.  I'm waiting to see what kind of grade program our school decides to use this year before I start working on this.  You may still use the links above to look at the different (although minor) changes.
