Pass out worksheets on grammar for students to spend 20 minutes on.

Read the poem “Ode to an Artichoke”/”Oda a la alcachofa” by Pablo Neruda on p.376

Discuss concept of metaphor and simile.  Find other examples from the poem and the short stories that students have read.  Discuss how themes are expressed through metaphors/similes.

If there is time, have students work on expository essays.
