      1. It is important to have established rules and consequences but students should have a part in determining both – students need to take ownership
      2. Students should have control of their classroom situations and learning to make them responsible for the future – They should understand why they need to learn and what sort of behavior will make this learning possible
      3. Students should recognize mistakes or misbehaviors and with the help of the teacher, set goals to minimize these behaviors
      4. Learning appropriate behavior and respect for one another in the classroom helps children to see what kind of behavior they should have throughout life – If a conflict arises between two children, both sides of the problem need to be talked out and dealt with

      1. I have always felt that the most important aspect of classroom management is fairness
        1. Students do not trust a teacher who is not fair
        2. No favorites/treating everyone as an equal classroom citizen
      2. Maximizing instruction time for the primary grades
        1. Establishing routine and expectations early
        2. Verbalizing/making known exactly what is expected and consequences if necessary

        1. Uncomfortable with disciplining students
