Melanie Smith

About me:

Hello to all!  I am Melanie Smith.  I am a Mathematics Instructor for Allen County Community College in Iola Kansas.  I have a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Emporia State University.  I have been teaching part time for the last five years and taking a graduate class now and then.  Last Spring I was hired for a full time position.  So now I must finish a Master's Degree!!  I came across the CTER program while surfing the web and it sounded perfect.  I am married and I have a 17 month old son, his name is Addison.  This Spring I will be teaching an ITV class.  I am a little nervous because teaching via interactive television is new to me, but I am also excited to be trying something new.  I am looking forward to the Spring semester.

My favorite educational resources:

• The only educational resources I have been using are the tutorials that accompany our text book.  I am hoping through the CTER program that I will have the opportunity to explore some other places where I can obtain some new instructional materials. 

Some of my favorite sites to visit:

• Emporia State University.  This is the college where I recieved my Bachelor's Degree.  I often visit their website to see what the latest news is.
• My favorite TV show is "Charmed".  They have a website that I like to visit to see when the latest season will be out on DVD as well as when the latest book will be released, I collect all the "Charmed" books!
• In my introduction e-mail I mentioned that I am a huge Chiefs fan and also a NASCAR fan.  I always check websites to keep up on stats.  For NASCAR I check out their official website.  To check my stats on the Chiefs and the pending playoff race I visit the NFL website.
