EVRsoft First Page

EVRsoft First Page is a commercially available HTML editor.  First Page 2006 Professional sells for $59.95 and is available by download from their website.  For an additional $30.00, EVRsoft First Page users will have access to premium website templates from DreamTemplate.  According to the website advertisement, "FirstPage 2006 is designed for professional web development. Create, Edit and deploy websites with absolute ease and precision. The integrated tools empower web developers to develop standards-based web documents, quickly and easily."

Features:

Dual Edit System: The user can edit in HTML source mode or in normal, WYSIWYG, mode, using a split screen to see both at once.

HTML Tag reference:  A side bar menu with clickable entries gives detailed descriptions of HTML code.

Photo Gallery Creator:  If pictures are part of the web page design, thumbnail images can save a lot of space.

Button Style Links:  Easily created from the tool bar menu.

Webpage templates: A few simple templates are included with the free demo version.  An extensive array of templates from DreamTemplate.com is included with the purchase of First Page Pro.

Extensive Language Support: Full support for HTML, XHTML, PHP, ASP, Cold Fusion, Javascript, CSS, SSI and Perl.

Page Color Themes

Other features listed below are beyond my understanding at this time, but here they are.   iScripts™, Popupmaker, Image Mapper, CSS Style Sheet Designer,  and Enhanced IDE Interface.

Activity 6

Select an advanced HTML editing tool and create a web site using it and upload the site to your web space. The purpose of the site is to present a review of the HTML editing tool of your choice and illustrate the features of the software by demonstrating what you can create with it. On the home page for this assignment, provide links to your classmates' homepages for this same assignment, i.e. among yourselves, create a web of interlinked sites that discuss different HTML editing tools. Put a link for the HTML editing tool analysis site in your e-portfolio.

Drawbacks:

Some of the features that I would like to use to enhance the appearance of my websites is not built into the tool menu.  A more in depth knowledge of HTML code is required to perform some very simple tasks such as: formatting button links to a uniform width and creating a text area.

Occasionally I became trapped in the reference page of the software.  The only way I could return to editing was to close and restart, losing all of my unsaved changes.

There is a long delay between a keystroke and the result in the dual edit mode.

Saving work can only be done while in source mode.

Conclusion:

If I had to, I could create adequate websites with First Page for my purposes, but even with all of it's features, I did not find the First Page program easy to use.  I would not purchase this to be my main web page creation tool.
