Data Collection Tables

We all spend our time a little differenlty each day.  To get a general idea about how we spend our time on a typical school day, we'll all try to follow the same procedure.

Survey Procedure

Find students in middle school or high school who are willing to track their time for a whole week while school is in session. Students participating in the survey should fill out a table like the one below for each 24 hour period over 5 school days.

Student Name (age) Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Total
Studying
Leisure and Playing
In Class Time
Sleeping
Eating
Doing Familly Chores
Work (employment outside of the home)
Other activities
TOTAL HOURS 24 24 24 24 24 120

If you need a spreadsheet to collect individual student data, compile the data, and graph it click here.

If your data has already been collected and totaled, but you need a spreadsheet to graph it click here.

Collecting and Compling your surveys.

You will probably have more than 5 students, just use this table as an example.  Type this data into you Excel spreadsheet.  Excel will compute the totals and the percents for you.  Use the Excel chart wizard to create a circle graph of your data.  Be sure to include a legend and the percent labels on your graph.

Identify your school and location here. Student 1 Student 2 Student 3 Student 4 Student 5 Total Percent

Save and Share your work.

Identify your school and location in the worksheet cell as indicated above.  Save your Excel file using a name that will help me identify your school or your location, and send it as an e-mail attachment.  As soon as I can after I receive your data and your graph, I will post the results on our RESULTS page.  Please be patient, it may take a few days after you send the e-mail for me to get it posted.
