The Phylogeny of the
Animal Kingdom

For the next nine weeks you will be exploring the animal kingdom.  You will be enjoying lectures, activities, and laboratories throughout the quarter.  All seven of the computer activites you will be doing can be found here.  You will need to do one activity per week in the computer lab.  Please do the first four in order.  The last two (the tutorials) can be done whenever you wish.  Your Quarter Project is the construction of a Phylogeny of the Animal Kingdom web site.   Please begin with the Phylogeny of the Animal Kingdom Overview.

ACTIVITIES:
For each web quest you will need to bring a pencil and paper to the lab.  You will work individually to follow the quest and discover the mysteries of the animal kingdom.
Week 1:  Lower Invertebrates
Week 2&3:  Higher Invertebrates
Week 4&5:  Fishes & Amphibians
Week 6&7:  Reptiles & Birds
Week 8&9:  Mammals
Week 1-9:  Web Page Design Tutorials

QUARTER PROJECT:
You will work in as a class to create a 6 page web site entitled The Phylogeny of the Animal Kingdom.
The first page will be the home page.  It will contain small descriptions of each of the other pages.  You may wish to include some sort of picture (or pictures) or trivia about the animal kingdom on this page.  For each of the other pages (lower invertebrates, higher invertebrates, fishes & amphibians, reptiles & birds, and mammals) you will need to include information on the following:

  1. Characteristics of each phylum
  2. Evolutionary benchmark for each phylum
  3. Major classes & examples from each phylum
  4. Interesting facts (biggest, smallest, etc)
  5. Pictures, clip art, etc.
