CTER Courses and Projects

EdPsy 387: Computer Uses in Education - This was the first course I took.  My major project for this course began as a classroom web page, but soon grew into web site for my whole team.  We went sure of the kind of impact it would have at first, but over the last two years we have received an abundance of positive feedback from our families on how the availability of information on the site allows them to be more involved in their child's education.

EdPsy 389: Evaluation and Assessment in Learning Technologies - Through my work in this course, I was able to do a Technology Needs Assessment of my building.  Since the day I shared the results with my colleagues, many of them have used the information and sought ways to include technology in their classroom.  We have also used the information gathered to request equipment and training and justify what our school and faculty needs in order to integrate technology into our classrooms.

EdPsy 399OL: Issues & Developments in Educational Psychology:
Learning and Classroom Management -
This course caused me to examine the  issues that affect the learning that goes on in my classroom.  I  looked closely at the issues I can control through my behavior as well as those I can affect through my own understanding of the problems my students face.  Throughout the course, I wrote about a variety of issues that affect learning.

EdPsy 490I: Analysis of Advanced Instructional Technologies - This was my final course.  Through knowledge gained in this course, I created this ePortfolio.  The most exciting thing I learned about during this course was the use of streaming technology.  I am now able to create lessons my students can access repeatedly and from home, such as the lesson I created below.

EdPsy 490ASA: Issues in Traditional and Alternative Student Assessment - This course allowed me to take a new look at the forms of assessment that I currently used, how well they truly measured learning, and provided me with the awareness and ability to create a wide variety of appropriate assessments.

EdPsy 490NET: Networks for Learning - This was the second course in the series taken.  I learned about online collaborative projects and wrote one to experience the process.  I have every intention of writing one again when I complete my Master's.  I also learned how to use a second program, Microsoft FrontPage,  to create web pages.  This has given me the confidence to be able learn how to use new programs as they become available to me.

EdPsy 490TER: Technology & Educational Reform - During this course, I learned to look at my school's culture and how technology could best be used within that culture.  I also spent time studying the use of project based learning, from implementation to outcome.  The major project for this course was to take knowledge gained and use it to write a grant.  It was an experience that gave me confidence and the skills to go on to write more grants for my school.

EPS 313: Ethical & Policy Issues in Information Technologies - In this course, I learned to look critically at the issues that can be created by technology in our school.  We looked at a variety of issues including such issues as access, censorship, privacy, commercialization, and crimes that take place through computers.  It was a very thought provoking course.  The culminating project was to write an addendum to update a set of papers created by prior students in this program that dealt with the issues.
