Narrated Powerpoint Presentation:
The Fine Arts Curriculum in District 59

District 59 in Arlington Heights, Illinois, has created an innovative fine arts program.  This program combines the four fine arts - music, art, drama, and dance - into one class for the students at each of the elementary schools.  One teacher instructs the students in all of the fine arts using integrated units.  To learn more about this program and my involvement in the creation and implementation of it, please click the link above and view my powerpoint presentation.

Fine Arts Newsletter and Website

During the past six years, I have discovered how integral a part parents play in their children's education.  Communication with parents is a key part of a teacher's job.  However, seeing the students only twice each week makes it extremely difficult to give them information for their parents.  Therefore, I created a fine arts newsletter and website to help me solve the problem of communicating with the parents.  This newsletter details what their children have been doing in fine arts, any homework that has been assigned, upcoming events, and artist and composer of the month assignments.  Many parents have taken the opportunity to use the email link to contact me; others have expressed their appreciation for the website, as they now feel more informed about their students' fine arts education.

Samples of Student Work in Visual Art

Drama, dance, and music are performing arts.  Due to the nature of the Internet and privacy rules, I am not able to post samples of my students engaged in drama, dance, and music activities.  Please contact me if you would like to view samples of the numerous musical productions I have directed over the past six years.

By following the link above, samples of my students' visual art pieces can be viewed.  All of the pieces chosen were challenging, but the students did a fantastic job!
