The Wind Chime Chimes
Items needed:
- 1/2" x 3' hollow steel pipe
- gold spray paint
- 1/2" rubber end caps
- shelf supports
- approximately 5' of 1"x4" board
- scrap piece of plywood 5"x15"
- fishing line
Instructions:
- Cut pipe into 9", 8", 7", 6", and 5"
lengths.
- Put end cap on one end of the pipe. Mark a dot
1/8" below end cap. Take off end cap. Drill a hole through the
pipe at the dot.

- Spray paint the pipes.
- Cut 1"x4" board to 13 1/8" length, making the
cuts at a 30o
angle. This will be the top angled board.
- Cut 1"x4" board to 13 1/2" and another one to
6 3/4" lengths. These will be the side boards.
- Drill 2 holes 2 1/4" from the bottom, in each
side piece for the shelf supports.
- Screw side pieces to the top angled
piece.
- Use a 3/4" paddle drill to make a flat seat
for the end caps in the top angled piece as is shown in the
picture. Be sure to stay parallel to the side pieces when
drilling.

- Drill holes in the top of the end caps so that
they can be screwed into the seats in the top piece.
- Hold end caps up to the seat and mark a dot on
either side of the cap. Drill holes through the top piece at these
markings, making sure to stay parallel with the side
pieces.
- Insert fishing line throught the holes in the
top piece, through the holes in the chimes and tie in place. Line
each chime up so that they are even across the bottom when doing
this.
- Screw end caps into the seats.
- Attach 5"x15" plywood board to the bottom with
screws.
- Cut a 1"x4" board into an 11 1/8" length. Hold
this board up to the bottom of the chimes and draw a mark where
each chime touches.
- Use a 3/4" paddle drill to make 5 holes for
the chimes to fit through.
- Place chimes through the holes and insert the
4 shelf supports to hold it.
- Purchase different size (and weight) triangle
beaters from music store.
