Proposal
The Homemade Instrument "How
To" Page
Purpose:
Students will learn about how sound is
produced and use that knowledge to build their own working musical
instrument.
Coordinator:
Dia Langellier is a Band Instructor at
Iles Elementary School in Springfield, IL. This project is a class
requirement for my graduate studies in Curriculum, Technology and
Education Reform (Ed Psy 490) offered online through the
University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana.
Activity:
Students will study different kinds of
musical instruments and how they produce sound, either through the
use of web links or as a classroom activity directed by their
teacher. They will then design and build working musical
instruments out of whatever materials they want to use. Students
should keep a journal along the way so that when they are
finished, they can write out step by step instructions for
building their instrument. These instructions and photos of the
instrument being built as well as the final product should be
emailed to the coordinator - Dia
Langellier. Please include your first
name and age.
Feedback:
Photos and instructions will be posted on
the web on the "How
to Build Your Own Musical Instrument"
page.
