The Washtub Bass
Items needed:
- 8 Gallon wash tub
- Broomstick
- 18 guage copper wire
- Nail, washers, nut, and 3/16"x2" eye
bolt
Instructions:
- Sand the broomstick until it is
smooth.
- Cut a notch 1/2" deep in the bottom of the
broomstick.
- Wrap the broomstick just above the notch with
adhesive tape to prevent the stick from splitting.
- Hammer a nail in the top of the broomstick so
the top end of the wire can be fastened.
- Drill a hole for the eye bolt in the center of
the tub bottom.
- Thread on a washer, insert bolt in tub, add
other washer and nut and tighten.
- Fasten one end of the wire to the eye bolt.
Put the notched stick over the rim of the tub, holding the stick
straight up, and stretch the wire tight. Fasten the other end of
the wire to the nail at the top of the broomstick. Cut off excess
wire.
Playing the Washtub Bass:
Stand and hold the tub down with one foot. Hold
the stick at the top with one hand and pluck the wire with the other
hand.
