Performance Evaluation

Students will be allowed 10-15 minutes of their lesson time on Wednesdays to check off songs from the following list. The songs are found in the "Scale Etude" book which the students have purchased. Percussionists have been issued a separate set of charts and rudiments for their check off material. The songs must be checked off in the order listed and will be graded with a 1-4 rubric (1=novice [I tried], 2=basic [I almost did it], 3=proficient [I did it], 4=advanced [I did more than expected]). Students will be expected to prepare the songs on their own time and check them off when ready. I will be available for help if needed. Students can ask for assistance in preparing songs during their lesson, or before/after school if explanations are needed. Students will be required to check off a minum of 6 songs per quarter.

Purpose: to show if students can use the musical knowledge taught to them to prepare and perform songs on their own.

Objectives:

Students recognize and identify the elements of band.

Demonstrate tonguing and slurring or sticking.
Demonstrate staccato and legato or first three rudiments.

Students demonstrate how performances are prepared.

Demonstrate correct fingerings, slide positions, sticking patterns, rhythms, articulations.
Perform selections using various time signatures and dynamics.

Directions: Songs and scales are to be checked off in order as listed. See rubric for listed requirements for novice (1), basic (2), proficient (3) and advanced (4) ratings.
