8th Grade Sex
Education & STD’s Research Project
Directions: For the next 5 days, you are to use the World Wide Web (internet) to conduct research regarding AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. You are to conduct your research during health classes and under the supervision of your health teacher. As a friendly reminder, remember that the internet here at school is protected by software which blocks sexually explicit web sites. Therefore, you should attempt to use only sites recommended by your instructor. If you desire specific information, which is blocked by the server, ask your instructor for help. Information, which you should specifically look for, includes the following:
1.
Any statistics regarding the rise or fall in the number
of reported cases of STD’s
2.
Historical references to the origin and spread of STD’s
3.
The most common STD’s occurring today
4.
The role of medical professionals and medicines used to
combat STD’s
5.
Potential health hazards and dangers regarding STD’s
6.
Methods of protecting one’s self from getting an STD
7.
References and agencies involved with combating STD’s
8.
Signs and Symptoms of STD’s
9.
Potential long term effects of STD’s
10.
The future with regard to STD’s
The research project should be turned in neatly
handwritten or typed. Remember to cite
ALL references used, to include Web addresses when necessary. A good place to start your research would be
the Center for Disease Control, which can be located by searching this phrase
on your computer. You will be graded
using the following rubric. Good luck
and happy researching!
