| Areas of Weakness (Gaps): |
Technology changes as rapidly as middle school students modify their styles, friends, and minds so there will certainly always be gaps in the curriculum. It is important however to be aware of the constant transformations that are occurring and to be flexible and willing to adapt as needed. In this particular curricular area there are other obstacles that may cause disruptions in the flow of everyday instruction and activities. It is inevitable that there will be technical difficulties, unavailability or inaccessibility of needed resources, and again flexibility and adaptability are necessary in order to avoid those obstacles without abandoning the curriculum. Often because of time restriction I do not get to fully cover all areas of the curriculum. I would like to integrate more of the units together in order to cover everything. For example, the Internet could easily be used in conjunction with any of the other units. Then if time allows I can cover the topics in more detail. Frequently the programs that I teach are not used in isolation, but rather in unison so it only makes sense to provide more authentic instruction and assessment focusing on this particular learning need. It was recently brought to my attention that I need to incorporate multiple choice test questions in my assessment practices in order to prepare the students for the state achievement tests. Although I see the advantages of using this method of assessment, I feel that this method is used so heavily in other classes that students need exposure to other forms. By the time students reach middle school they are experts at paper and pencil tests and need more experience with alternative methods of assessment in order to prepare them for high school and beyond. In this situation I feel that the benefits of my lack of use of multiple choice testing prevails the shortcomings. |
