In addition to training the staff on how to use the mobile lab and providing input on how they can be used in the classroom, data was collected from the staff based on what they want to learn, how they currently integrate technology, and what obstacles they face in feedback will help develop a better staff development program. The evaluation was conducted by myself as part of Evaluation and Assessment in Learning Technologies course in the fall of 2003 to determine the Palombi Middle School staff needs regarding technology. The data collected also reinforced the need for more computers at Palombi in which blossomed the proposal for a mobile lab. This project will be evaluated throughout the school year and revised so that we can continue the project in the following years. The following questions were asked to the staff through a survey in addition to the results from each: 1. How often do
you integrate technology into your classroom? 2. Have you encountered
any of the following problems while integrating technology? 3. What topics
are you interested in learning more about? 4. If technology
workshops were offered after school, once a month would you be available
and willing to attend? 5. Are you currently
using the National Technology Standards (NETS) in your lessons? With about sixty-five percent of the staff responding to the survey, it was concluded that although many of the teachers are currently integrating technology into their classrooms they often encounter problems in doing so. Implementing a better maintenance schedule, purchasing more equipment/software, and offering more training to the staff can resolve these problems. The staff indicated a high level of interest in learning more about multimedia, MS Office, and Timeliner. Many of the staff members surveyed indicated that they would be available and willing to attend the training sessions that would be offered monthly after school by the technology committee. To ensure that
the mobile lab is being utilized to its fullest potential the technology
committee, consisting of all technology teachers in the district,
the assistant superintendent, the technology coordinator, and both
technicians will administer the following evaluation at the end of
each trimester to the staff. The survey will be distributed and collected
during staff meetings to ensure participation from the staff. The
results will be used by the technology committee to determine what
staff development, curricular modifications, and maintenance is needed
as well as addressing any funding issues. The technology committee
has established some goals for each trimester as to what percent
of the staff should be integrating technology weekly. If these goals
are not met the building liaisons have offered to provide one-on-one
support for staff that need the extra guidance. 1. How often do
you integrate technology into your classroom? 2. Have you encountered
any of the following problems while integrating technology? 3. What topics
are you interested in learning more about? 4. Have you attended any of the monthly technology workshops? If yes was the information presented helpful in integrating technology
into your classroom? 5. Have you noticed an increase in student motivation, comprehension,
and/or performance with the aid of the mobile lab? 6.
Are you currently using the National Educational Technology Standards
(NETS) in your lessons? In addition the following log will be used to track how often the
lab is used, for what purposes, and for what subject areas. |
