SHARING REGIONAL INFORMATION IN THE U.S.
by Kathy Hickey

INTRODUCTION This project was created after viewing many network projects on the Global School Network.  I wanted to select a topic that correlated with 4th grade curriculum.  Our social studies text title is Regions by Scott Foresman.  Its layout focuses on a new region in the United States every two chapters.  I thought it would be fun for the students to have a place to  investigate the different regions of our country and be
responsible for the creation of the web site itself.

DESCRIPTION-This site was designed to be a place to enhance students learning on the internet while learning about regions in the United States.  The project has the classroom teacher introducing information about their region/town and then submitting information to submit on the internet.  By submitting information on history, landmarks, landforms and climate, students will be learning all about specific areas within a region.
In addition, students will individually share in essay form their
favorite place to visit in their region.  Their comments and ideas will be posted for others to enjoy.
SUMMARY-I look forward to updating this site throughout the school year.  I have had several interested teachers respond to my idea and would like to join in when the school year begins. I was very encouraged to receive several responses to my project during the summer months.  I know that when school resumes the areas in which I receive responses will branch out.  My biggest concern at this time will be managing the information received and keeping the site current.  I personally enjoyed doing research on the town in which I live and sharing it with others.
