Part 3 Make a prediciton
Home Up Data Page Resources

Step 1

Discuss differences within the class amounts in energy used. For example, which students live in homes? Which students live in apartments? Discuss predictions for the month in which you have collected data. Would you expect to use more or less electricity 6 months from now? What about students from other states? Would you expect students from Arizona to use more or less electricity compared to students in Minnesota? Why?

Step 2

In order to conduct and experiment, scientists must form a hypothesis. A hypothesis is an educated guess that is based on what you already know. Scientists complete experiments to collect data and check if the hypothesis is correct or not.

Think about what you learned in your discussion. Brainstorm several hypotheses and pick one to investigate. Think about the questions you discussed in step 1.

Step 3

Make a prediction about what you'll find when you look at the data (assuming your hypothesis to be true) Click below to see some examples of great hypotheses and predictions.
