.: Instructions

"Revise the assessments in your curriculum map using the guidelines discussed in the readings so far.  If all of your assessments are Objective or Multiple-choice, revise at least two assessments to measure more complex achievements, using essays or other written forms of assessments to measure more complex achievements, using essays, or other written forms of assessment, performance-or project-based assessments, and/or portfolios.  Your assessment should be red for administration.  That is, you assessments should be professional.  All details (e.g. directions, point values, time limits, etc.) should be included.  Submit the revised assessment items and/or tasks alongside the original assessment items."

.: Analysis of Assessments

The course I am teaching is titled IT274 – Windows Active Directory.  It is a second year course for students pursuing an Associate in Applied Science degree in Network Technologies.  This course maps to a Microsoft industry certification exam 70-294 which is a requirement for the Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) certification, one of the industries leading certifications for network technicians.  Prior to taking this course, a student would have already successfully completed three other Microsoft certification courses leading up to this course.  This is a three-credit course with the students meeting twice a week for two hours.  The first class of the week focuses primarily on teaching course content and is typically lecture, discussion, problem-solving.  The second class is lab with the students working in teams of two and each team has their own network lab which consists of a small LAN network, two servers (a domain controller and a member server) and one workstation.  This simulates the basic operations of a typical network.

It should also be noted that the textbook used for this course is divided into Lessons, not Chapters.  Each Lesson contains 8-12 Skills that the student will learn during the course of that lesson.

For Stage Three of this project I will focus on revising the assessments for Lessons 7-9 which is the section of the course we will begin next week.  You will notice that in the Revised Assessments I have elected to revise Assessment b and c for Lesson 7, which are shown in bolded text.

.: Assessments Chosen for Revision

OLD ASSESSMENT REVISED ASSESSMENT

Lessons 7-9
a. Class discussion reviews prior knowledge and establishes the context of the lesson content.
b. Problem Solving Scenarios
(Lesson 7) – Students will address file sharing problems on a Windows Server 2003 network and outline a plan to reconfigure three file servers.
(Lesson 8) – Students must address a problem with a domain controller that frequently fails.

(Lesson 9) – Lab teams will create a PowerPoint presentation outlining their plan to use “Organizational Units” to better manage the scenario’s network.  The presentation must show the proper order in which the GPO’s will be applied.

c.(Lesson 7)

Students will answer the Test Yourself Questions at the end of each lesson to assess content knowledge.
d. Online Lesson Quiz will focus on terminology.  Quizzes are set to randomize questions so each attempt is different.
e. Lesson Skills are labs in which students work in teams of 2 performing the stated skills on a network server running Windows Server 2003.
f. Lab Reflections are short discussion times following a lab to discuss problems or skills.  For Lesson 7 each lab team will write their thought of how Replication Monitor, Event Viewer, and support tools can be used to troubleshoot Active Directory problems.  For Lesson 8 they will journal their reflections. For Lesson 9, they will journal their reflections.
g. Lesson Exam covers learning objectives presented in lesson content and lab skills. There is an exam at the end of each lesson.

Lessons 7-9
a. Class discussion reviews prior knowledge and establishes the context of the lesson content.

b. Problem Solving Scenarios
(Lesson 7) – Working in teams with their lab partner students will analyze a real-world networking problem on a Windows Server 2003 network involving three file servers. Teams will analyze the problem, design a solution and present the solution to the class using multimedia.
(Lesson 8) – Students will analyze a problem with a domain controller that frequently fails and write a troubleshooting journal on the steps that should be taken to identify and resolve the problem.

(Lesson 9) – Lab teams will create a PowerPoint presentation outlining their plan to use “Organizational Units” to better manage the scenario’s network.  The presentation must show the proper order in which the GPO’s will be applied.
c.(Lesson 7)
Each student will create an exam of at least 20 questions and no more than 25 questions taken from the textbook Lesson 7.  Besides the question the student must list the answer and where it is found in the text.  If the question is a multiple choice question, then the student must also explain why the other answers would be incorrect. There can be no more that five true-false questions and there must be at least five essay, or short answer questions.  You can get ideas from the “Test Yourself” section, but you cannot use any of those questions.  Use the same format as is used in the Online Lesson Quiz.
