Project: Where In the World Are You?

Date:  Summer session: July 17-30, 2001
            Fall/Winter session:  September 1, 2001 ? March 1, 2001

Purpose:  This project was designed to be a competition and a quiz about places around the world so students can learn about other countries and different parts of countries from people who really live there.  The information will involve climate, latitude/longitude, crops grown, religions practiced, typical living space, natural resources, and more of each region.  The competition comes in when we see whose class will get all the answers correct at the end!

Subjects: geography, technology, language arts

Grade level:  4-9 grades are welcome

Summary:  This project will benefit all students by exploring their own surroundings and culture, and then comparing it to other countries.  The students will also be able to make use of research tools for a specific purpose, that is, to complete the quiz while learning about different countries.

As a participant, your class will gather information about their area and send it to me to be put on the quiz.  Once at least 10-15 classes have entered from around the world, the quiz will be sent to each class to complete using references of the teacher's choice.   Each teacher could use this quiz after completion by the students to lead a discussion on different information about each country/region for immediate feedback for their students.

Number of participants:  Summer session: 5 students representing different countries
Fall/Winter session: 10 to 15 classrooms would be ideal.
