Native Americans of the Southeast

Miami Tribe

I have been researching the Miami Indians.  They lived in northern Indiana.  But now they only have a small reservation in Indiana and another in Oklahoma.  The Miami Indians wore beaded headdresses with few feathers stuck in them.  The Miami women wore skirts and leggings and the men wore breechcloths all the time even in the winter.  Men and women both wore poncho-style shirts.  They Miami got most of their food from farming.  The women did the farming and they grew corn, squash, and beans.  The men hunt buffalo for their meat and to use their hide as shields.  The Miami’s lived in small oval houses made of woven reads and in every village there was a larger wooden council house.  The Miami’s were affected by the new settlers because all of the land they used to have was gone because the settlers were greedy and just wanted it for themselves.
