ELISE JOHNSON'S
387 PROJECT
(Revised)
My project was to develop a working webpage for my fourth grade classroom.
It took
me awhile to get started, but after much troubleshooting, I have created
a main class webpage and added 4 extra pages to provide extra information
to my students. This is to serve as a resource for
parents to check on periodically, to see what is going on in their child's
classroom. This would replace a monthly newsletter (though I will
probably print out some pages for those families without computer access).
I have included a page that lists the daily homework assignments,
one with class news, and another with interesting links that the 4th graders
can use and even receive some extra credit!
Since my last report, I have added a Favorite Books List page that includes
our 4th grade Battle of the Books list. In the future, I would like
to add pictures taken at various school field trips, assemblies, or parties,
along with some activities that parents can do with their children at home
to help extend the lessons learned at school. I consider this a continual
work in progress.
I hope this will provide for better communication between
myself and my parents and students. I plan to assign a student "webmaster"
to help me keep up with the daily assignments, news, etc, and perhaps arrange
for my colleagues to establish their own class webpages for their classes.
After some feedback from my peers, I may have to change the daily assignments
page to a weekly assignment page, so that I don't go crazy!
I have learned an incredible amount of information from completing this project.
Most importantly, I’ve learned that everything needs to be saved to the folder
before it would work on the site. I did have a backup folder on my
desktop so that I could quickly check out the changes before posting them
in my web folder. This took a bit more time, but it was worth it in
the long run, since there were times when my computer would crash and I would
have lost everything! Above all, I have learned to be determined to
get something to work and even solved a few problems on my own, without the
help of my children or CTER tech support!
I am pleased that I have been able to develop a project that I can actually
use in my classroom next year. I am looking forward to seeing how it
goes and what changes I will have to make in order for this to be successful.
