Replies to Classmate's Lesson 13:

Class Meetings

Response to Linda in regards to Kristy -- I wonder if anonymity would be somewhat protected during a class meeting if students were to submit their discussion topics in writing before the meeting, maybe in a comments box or something. Then the teacher could read the topic and students would not necessarily know who wrote it. -- We just can't get away from those statements of wonderment now :)

Response to Sarah -- "Personally, I enjoyed the synchronous sessions more for the conflict resolution project for this course. The synchronous sessions were fast paced and more exciting. I had to be on my toes as the mediator while the asynchronous session was effective, but not as challenging. I enjoyed getting the answers and information immediately from the synchronous session. I find it difficult to have students engage in an online public school, and the though effective at times, I feel the asynchronous sessions would allow too much down time and room for procrastination with my students. I think the chat sessions are effective and meaningful because it is real time." I agree with you completely. Especially if there are strong emotions involved, I do not think that asynchronous sessions are as effective. People want immediate satisfaction and the asynchronous does not deliver that.
