Replies to Classmate's Lesson 1:

Getting Started with Classroom Management

Response to Kerin -- I really liked your schools goals of Be Safe, Be Ready, and Be Respectful. These three things seem to summarize all of the important "rules" of school and classroom environments. I wish something like that simple, yet complete, would work in my Junior High classes, but they are at the questioning stage in life. If the dos and don'ts are not directly stated, they feel that they can do as they please. For example, we know that a rule such as "be respectful", takes into consideration such things as name calling and protecting others property. These students take the approach that it does not say they can't call people names, therefore they are allowed to call people anything they want. They just love to split hairs to make things come out to their advantage!

Response to Colleen -- Though this is only my third year of teaching, I believe that there must be a possibility of falling between two levels. I also agree that the student population has a strong influence on a teacher's level of maturity. If this is not possible, there is something wrong with me, because my own maturity seems to fall between Intuitive-Survival and Reflective-Confident. I see it varying depending on the students that I am dealing with.
