Nature of the Student
The student is an individual with a unique personality and set of abilities.  To a certain extent, attention needs to be given to each student's individual differences while maintaining awareness of the good of the group.
Educational Purpose
With the understanding that educators cannot teach students everything they will need to know for their entire lives, education should equip students with the necessary tools to acquire and interpret knowledge for the rest of their lives.  These tools include:
Expectation of Teacher
The teacher is a facilitator of knowledge.  She provides necessary direction for her students--sometimes more than others.  She is a motivator and encourager.  She is firm in her expectations yet flexible as needed.  She takes the time to learn and reflect on her teaching.  She collaborates and works as part of the team of teachers.
Educational Methods
The teacher will provide multiple methods for learning.  These methods will vary from individual to group work.  The teacher will serve as facilitator yet at times take on a central focus in the classroom.  The students will learn through student-focused dialogue, discussion, and hands-on experiences.
