Summer Assignment P4

Project - Linear Regression Data Collection

Linear Regression

A classic statistical problem is to try to determine the relationship between two random
variables  X and Y. For example, we might consider height and weight of a sample of adults.
Linear regression attempts to explain this relationship with a straight line fit to the data.

Your assignment in section P4 deals with all types of data analysis.  Linear regression, sine regression, quadratic regression, etc.  Most of you are familiar with calculating the equations on your TI 83 or 84s.  For this assignment, I am asking you to write the question.  That is, collect the data to fit into an equation.

You will collect data from any source you choose.  The data must be real and you should list your source.  Your data must include at least five (5) points.

The data must be collected and sent to me by July 31st.  I will put the data together and email it back to you as well as post it on this site. Use the regression cababilities of your TI and determine the linear regression equations for each set of data.  Then determine who's data best fits a straight line.  Once you have calculated the equations, email me all of the equations along with the name of the person with the best data.  This assignment is worth 10 points and the person with the best data will receive 5 extra credit points.  My email addresses are bradfrey@owc.net and bfrey@kidsroe.org.

This assignment can take the place of your section P4 assignment.
