The introduction of Romeo and Juliet 1968 by Ali MacGraw when the
movie was shown on AMC (American Movie Classics) a while ago. The viewing
of the movie was sponsored by Waldenbooks, your best source for romance
novels. The text is almost word for word.
The play is about the volatile pressures of youth. Zefferelli
deftly turned Shakespeare's prose into the poetry of love. This is
the first version to show Romeo and Juliet naked on their wedding night.
The entire film is gorgeous. Small wonder the picture won
Oscars for costume design and cinematography. The movie starred Leonard Whiting( a British actor, who
played Romeo) and Olivia Hussey (juliet). They were young when they
filmed the Classic, 17 and 15 years, respectably. Romeo and Juliet
(1968) , from Italy/U.K., was directed by Franco Zeffirelli.
Zeffirelli creates a stunning adaptation with more action,
humor and sexiness than has ever been seen in the tale.
The playing time is 152 minutes long. This movie was one
of the more realistic interpretations of William Shakespeare's Tragedy.
This adaptation was the first to show Romeo and Juliet nude.
All of the scenes in the 1968 version of R+J were shot in Italy,
in several cities of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio.
All the church scenes - the mariage, the dialogue between
Romeo and the nurse and with Friar Lawrence, and the tomb scene -
are shoted in Tuscania - 50 miles to Rome - a beatifull, little, medieval
village; the church, named S. Pietro, is as fine as in the movie, full
of great atmosphere.
Juliet's home, with the famous garden and balcony, is located
in Pienza, Tuscany; also here was shot the nocturnal scene with Mercutio
and his Queen Mab speech .
All the scenes of riots and duels are settled in Gubbio,
the most fair medieval city of Italy.

"I read your FAQ to see if someone had already asked about the script
and I noticed that stuff about people saying "I love
your movies", you know, thinking you were Leonardo
DiCaprio... I just think its so funny that people think
these actors spend all there very limited free time into
making a web site about themselves!! Its so funny!!! Any way,
thanks!"
